  • Good morning, everyone! As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, today we honor Selena Quintanilla, famously known as the ‘Queen of Tejano Music.’ Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1971. From a very young age, she showed incredible musical talent and began performing with her family’s band, Selena y Los Dinos. They started out singing at small events and restaurants, but Selena’s powerful voice and determination soon captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. She helped bring Tejano, or Tex-Mex music—a blend of Mexican and American styles—into the spotlight, creating a unique sound that connected cultures. Selena became a Grammy Award–winning artist and a cultural icon, admired not only for her music but also for her fashion, her pride in her heritage, and the way she inspired others to follow their dreams. Even today, her legacy lives on, reminding us that with passion, perseverance, and pride in who we are, we can make a lasting impact. Let’s celebrate Selena and all the contributions of the Hispanic community during Hispanic Heritage Month.

  • As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, today we highlight Chichén Itzá, one of the most famous landmarks in Mexico. Chichén Itzá was a large city built by the Maya civilization more than a thousand years ago. Its most famous structure is the Temple of Kukulkán, also called El Castillo, a giant pyramid with 365 steps—one for each day of the year. The Maya were brilliant scientists and architects. They designed the pyramid so perfectly that during the spring and fall equinox, the sunlight creates the shadow of a serpent moving down the steps. This shows the Maya’s deep knowledge of math, astronomy, and engineering. Today, Chichén Itzá is recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and is visited by millions of people every year. It stands as a reminder of the rich history and amazing achievements of Hispanic and Latino cultures.

  • Today, as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor César Chávez, a Mexican-American leader who dedicated his life to improving the lives of farm workers. Chávez co-founded the United Farm Workers union and fought for better pay, safer working conditions, and respect for laborers who helped feed the nation. He believed in the power of nonviolent protest, organizing marches, boycotts, and hunger strikes to bring attention to injustices. His famous phrase, “Sí, se puede!” — which means “Yes, it can be done!” — continues to inspire people today to stand up for fairness and justice. César Chávez showed us that with courage and determination, positive change is possible. Let’s remember his legacy today by standing up for respect, equality, and the value of every person’s hard work.

  • As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, today we’re highlighting a famous landmark: Machu Picchu in Peru. Machu Picchu is an ancient city built high in the Andes Mountains by the Inca civilization more than 500 years ago. Sometimes called the “Lost City of the Incas,” it is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. The stone structures were built so well that they still stand today, even through earthquakes and heavy rains. Machu Picchu is not only a symbol of Incan history and achievement, but it’s also a reminder of the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Indigenous peoples. In fact, it’s one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World and attracts visitors from all over the globe. By learning about landmarks like Machu Picchu, we honor the creativity, history, and resilience found in Hispanic cultures.

  • Buenos dias amigos! As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, today we want to recognize the diversity within Hispanic cultures. Hispanic communities come from over 20 different countries, and each one has its own unique foods, music, and traditions. For example, in Mexico you might enjoy tamales, while in Venezuela arepas are a favorite, and in Spain you’ll find paella. Music is also wonderfully diverse. Mariachi bands from Mexico, salsa from the Caribbean, bachata from the Dominican Republic, and reggaetón from Puerto Rico all bring different rhythms and styles that people around the world enjoy. Traditions also vary widely, from colorful festivals and parades to family gatherings that honor history, culture, and community. This diversity reminds us that while Hispanic cultures share common roots, each one has something special to offer. Let’s celebrate these differences that make our world brighter and richer.
